A few years ago I went as “Leave Britney Alone,” and before a LOLcat. Here’s a great resource for this year to play up your favorite internet meme and astound onlookers with your esteemed internerdiness: “Hallo-meme Costume Builder”
I put together a compilation of melodic IDM / deep techno called Robohustlin for my label, subVariant. I put out an open call for submissions in July and got an amazing collection of submissions. I decided to go with minimal techno / melodic IDM since that was submitted the most. Hope you enjoy!
Chaircrusher’s “Crow Beat” and Milipede’s “30,000″ take a somewhat dark, harder approach, while tracks like Diarmo’s “Details” and Matt Wolfe’s “4:09am” hover somewhere between hopefulness and melancholy, held together with intricate rhythmic programming.
In keeping with subVariant’s tongue-in-cheek, music-as-consumer-product design aesthetic (see Subvaritrax, Exception AM), Robohustlin‘s digital cover lists the individual artists as separate “cures” in a packaging style based on the popular cough & cold medication, Robitussin.
1. Chaircrusher: “Crowbeat“
2. Millipede: “30,000“
3. Digital Gnosis: “Ruins“
4. Redun: “Splt“
5. Tapage & Stan Verberkt: “Modular“
6. CitizenGreen: “Ob“
7. Matt Wolfe: “4:09am“
8. Michael Una: “Aleph“
9. Elijah B Torn: “oooEight“
10. JahWarrior: “The Mad Piano“
11. Codebase: “Duel“
12. Diarmo: “Details“
13. Glen Stefani: “Over it Already v2“
Last Thursday was beset by technical difficulties, so I’m re-doing the virtual release party tonight. Watch the post on the subVariant page in case I need to switch back to Stickam again: Robohustlin Virtual Release Party

Last.fm introduced a beta feature that can compare artists, genres and tags on a gender – age plot. Interesting.
http://blog.last.fm/2010/09/22/now-in-the-playground-gender-plots
Here’s one that’s particularly interesting:

Software, engineer, DJ, producer, and musician all skew male, while boyfriend, girl, email, outgoing, person, friends and love all skewed female.
Thoughts?
I love the a capella Pac Man theme music too!
UPDATE: This is part of Guillaume Reymonds “Game Over” project, where he does live human stop-motion videos of many other vintage games. (Thanks, Le Singe)

Check out these notebooks and address books in the form of a SIM Card, the SIMBook Notebook & SIMBook Address Book. Thankfully, they are useful in that they are not to scale–they are both 3.25″ x 5.5″. $6.00 at Fractalspin.
I found this series on Hulu from the creator of Super Size Me, Morgan Spurlock, and found it fascinating from a human perspective, along with the educational aspect from the documentary aspects. The premise is that the series put someone into a totally foreign environment for 30 days, and often that someone is extremely wary of what they’re getting into but at least open minded enough to give it a shot. Hilarity ensues.
In the episode I posted (my all-time favorite):
A God-fearing 24-year-old conservative homophobe from red state America travels to San Francisco’s Castro district to live in what is notoriously known as one of the gayest areas of the country.
“Would they change their mind if they just got to know each other?”
Watch and see how it turns out (I loved it).
